If you haven’t been on any of the social networking sites or on Youtube recently then you probably haven’t seen FCKH8’s newest commercial promoting gay rights, bashing proposition 8 and asking homophobics to mind their own business and stop the hating. Personally I found this video to be absolutely brilliant, it made me smile and I’ll be the first to admit that I have watched it more than once. If you’re offended by the language there is a censored version you can watch and before you freak out over the children using the F-bomb it seems pretty obvious to me that some of them have been edited.
The message of FCKH8.com is clear, they are not asking people to accept homosexuality, they are simply asking people who hate gays to mind their own business and to stop purposely trying to make their lives hard. This video could not have come at a better time considering the recent suicides of teens who had been outed on the web. I swear, watching Ellen’s monologue about these suicides had me in tears in no time. You’d think in the 21st century we’d be beyond hating people because of their sexual orientation especially since it has been proven that homosexuality DOES occur in nature. It blows my mind that even in today’s society teenagers feel that they need to take their lives because they have been outed as being gay. The issue of online bullying is one that has been growing over the past decade with an alarming rate and is something that needs to be fought. Think about it, not only are these kids being teased and harassed at school and at the mall but now also when they are at home. They no longer even have the security of their homes to keep their tormentors at bay.
On a brighter note the folks from FunnyorDie.com did a little video of their own making fun of proposition 8 in the form of a star studded musical. If you haven’t seen it yet, you will not be disappointed! The Prop 8 musical itself is actually pretty good not to mention hilarious with actors like Neil Patrick Harris, Jack Black, John C. Reilly, Adam Shankman and more. Hope you enjoy these videos as much as I did, and F*ck H8!
