As I trawl the web looking for interesting porn-related tidbits in the news, roughly a dozen times a year I’m confronted with articles about former porn stars who have found God (typically the Christian one), turned away from the sinful adult entertainment industry and now make a living talking about being a former porn star who has found God and turned her or his back on the sinful adult entertainment industry.

Typically, these stories are recycled by elements of the Christian blogosphere several times per ex-performer, so the 10-12 times per year I run into these stories really represent 2-3 individuals making multiple appearances in the news cycle.
What I don’t typically see, anywhere in these news cycles, is a story about a current porn star who also considers herself an evangelical Christian. (Talk about getting ahead of the curve, eh?)
I guess what all this means is today is an atypical day.
What’s The Definition Of Being ‘Fruitful,’ Again?
As you might expect, Kamilla Warneck’s recent proclamation of her evangelical Christian faith didn’t go over so well with a lot of her fellow Christians, especially those who are hung up on questions of who seeing whose nakedness is problematic under the rules set forth by their Lord.
As her interviewer, Nicole Puzzi, put it during the interview, “how do you relate that to your work because people believe a porno actress cannot be Evangelical and cannot be religious?”
This isn’t how Warneck sees things, however; to her, God simply isn’t as hung up as many of His followers (or in the case of the people who jotted down all these rules eons ago, His purported transcribers) believe Him to be.
“People are very judgmental,” Warneck quite correctly observed. “They try to make you conform in a way they think an Evangelical should be because society says so. But I don’t agree with this. I think God sees inside our hearts. He judges the good and the bad things you do, and I do good things for people. I’m a good person at heart and that’s what matters.”
While I’m inclined to agree with Warneck the only thing that really matters is her being a good person, I’m neither Christian nor particularly dogmatic when it comes to anything, so it’s safe to say I’m not part of the demographic she’s trying to persuade here when it comes to the question of whether one can be both Evangelical and a porn performer.
So, Dad, I Have Some Big News….
So, how does her very religious family feel about this whole porn thing? That’s a good – and unsettled – question, because depending on whether you believe the text of the article or the cut lines beneath the photos of Warneck therein, it appears her family may not know about this whole porn thing.
“My family don’t have a clue about what I do for a living,” Warneck said. “I haven’t told them but to be honest I really don’t care if they find out.”
Oh, dear.
Speaking from experience as someone who works in the porn industry without ever having been in front of the camera, I can tell you Warneck might not care now, but when her family does find out, she’s certainly going to care about their reaction – because they’re likely so be so damn obnoxiously negative about it she’ll have no choice but to care.
It’s also possible Warneck is nonchalant about this possibility because she’s already inflamed her family’s religiously conservative sensibilities once before, when she divorced her husband and started a new relationship with another woman.
“My family was really shocked when they found out,” Warneck said of her divorce and new relationship. “It took them a while to accept because their Evangelical beliefs and prejudice against gay relationships made it hard for them to come to terms with my decision.”
Uh, yeah, this might be something of an understatement when it comes to the perspective of Evangelicals on homosexuality. (Time for another link to the Book of Leviticus, methinks.)
I’m sure you’ll also be shocked to hear Kamilla’s family doesn’t really buy into the notion she’s truly gay.
“They think it’s just a phase I’m going through,” Warneck said. “That may well be the case, but one day I might shock them even more because I’m prepared to live with anyone so long as they make me happy, and that could include finding love with a transsexual.”
Oh, to be a fly on the cozinha wall for the conversations to come between Kamilla and her parents – especially if she waits until she’s in a relationship with a transgender person to also let them know she’s been working in porn.
