PayForYourPorn.org – New Organization Advocates for Fans to Purchase Adult Entertainment & Educates on Harms of Piracy!
by Coleen Singer at Sssh.com
Not long after I broke the story about Samuel L. Jackson sticking his rather large foot in his mouth by doing a shout-out to a free tube site during a Captain America press junket, a new advocacy group, PayForYourPorn.org quickly took shape and became VERY active! It would appear that I was not the only person in the adult industry that was infuriated by a mainstream A-List actor endorsing piracy of porn movies.
The official launch of PayForYourPorn.Org has brought together the industry’s top players for a common cause – to support the benefits of quality paid content. The organization educates adult entertainment fans to fight against theft by seeking out paid content. Purchasing content ensures it’s better produced, delivered in higher quality formats, more secure, and fosters the creation of new adult content.
Porn stars may like it rough sometimes, but picking their pockets takes playing dirty too far. Wicked Pictures contract star, and sex educator jessica drake is outspoken on the effects of piracy: “As a performer, director, and producer for Wicked Pictures, I can speak first hand about the very real effects of piracy on the entertainment industry and the economy. Piracy is a very serious criminal activity. It not only decreases the bottom line of the artist, but also every single person who is employed by the art, music, literary, and entertainment industries.”
“People don’t realize Illegal downloading of copyrighted digital content results in a loss of jobs, lower wages, higher unemployment rates, and higher taxes,” continues drake. “Theft is also a violation of personal consent and ethics. Support the entertainment you love, the companies and stars who make your favorite movies, and the economy. Please pay for your porn.”
Tasha Reign, adult performer and owner of Reign Productions, agrees, “I hope my fans understand I cannot create porn without them paying for it. The word needs to be spread.”
Tasha also shot a short PSA video for PayForYourPorn.org which sums it up nicely!
One of the key messages of PayForYourPorn.org is porn piracy hurts everyone, from the creators behind the scenes to the porn stars fans love to watch. Most importantly, it affects the consumer. Everybody needs to make a living – theft only helps take away that ability of the tens of thousands of people in the adult industry.
Organization spokesperson Megan Wozniak of adultempire.com shares this insight: “We felt it was important to launch the campaign to raise awareness of pirated content and how detrimental it can be to the industry. Consumers may not be aware of what goes into shooting a film, from the cameras and equipment to the permits needed. If you’re watching for free, people aren’t getting paid for their work and as a result the quality and variety will begin to suffer. That’s why we launched this campaign, to build a community around this cause. Pornstars like Jessica Drake & Siri have been huge advocates as well as other supporting members like Sssh.com and Wasteland. Let’s rally together and show people why porn is worth paying for!”
Which brings to mind a true story from my personal experience. About 8 years ago, we had a young guy in his mid-20’s doing some video work for us at our film studio. When he one day saw me buying a song at the iTunes store, he was almost horrified that anyone would actually PAY for music, or movies or even software.
He then told me that since he first got on the internet as a teenager, he had never spent a dime on ANYTHING and was proud of it. (blah blah Occupy Wall Street …. blah blah Reddit ….. blah blah copyright trolls…..)
I took this as a challenge to “educate” him and after much weedling, finally convinced him to buy the complete works of his favorite recording artist for the astonishing sum of $19.95. I watched him as his finger trembled over the “buy” button when he made the purchase. About a week later, he told me that he felt really GOOD about buying that music rather than stealing it, and was now buying individual songs and building up his legal music library. Same for movies! I suspect he still steals lots of software, but I do think that education of consumers about the value of supporting their favorite performing artists and actors is a GOOD thing for their soul, plus it’s the fuel that powers the engine that keeps the entertainment industry alive and innovating.
