From what we can tell, there have only been two mainstream movies ever released about male strippers:
The Full Monty
and
Magic Mike
Spaced about a decade apart, these are both great films with behind the scenes looks at what happens in this popular show venue industry that is much-loved by women fans, but pretty much ignored in popular culture media coverage.
We at sssh.com LOVE the topic! Even if the men are not that spectacular-looking, it’s always a great opportunity for groups of women to have a night out on the town, have a great time, and hoot at some guys that are performing for them on stage.
Take a look at the two Hollywood Features below and how two very different film makers crafted their works about the Male Stripper culture. Bear in mind that “The Full Monty” is British and shot 10+ years before Steven Soderbergh’s new film, “Magic Mike”, but both are a fascinating look into an otherwise hidden sexual culture, created for the sexual enjoyment of women!
But, first! Take a look at my favorite film, Kinky Boots that pre-dates “Fifty Shades of Grey” by a decade and provides some context for people exploring their sexuality:
And, now that Kinky Boots is out of the way, look below for the Male Stripper movies that we are talking about…..
The Full Monty Trailer:
What I really like about this movie is that it takes on a “side-glance” at the sexuality and focuses on the relationships of the characters, with a lot of very nice plot and character development, and is made in that same “British” film making school as “KinkyBoots” that is both a romp through post-modern sexuality, and a glimpse inside of people that are discovering it. Probably the most significant character is the trans-gendered lead that brings “kinky boots” to the main stage for a very happy ending to the story.
Magic Mike Trailer:
Now that we are in the year of 2012, it’s a whole new ball game.
Take a look at the Magic Mike trailer and see how things have progressed……
Enjoy both, and come visit us at sssh.com for a full section about Male Strippers with videos, interviews and behind the scenes coverage of this hidden culture!
