Couples Porn
One assumes that means porn for couples to watch together. This is totally different that “porn for women”, “Feminist Porn”, “Erotica For Women Porn” and all of those genres.
Why? All of the “for women” genres seek to serve the sexual viewing needs of women. By themselves. Not with the hubby!
Here’s the rub (as it were): When couples watch porn together, let’s just be honest here. They are watching porn together as part of the act of foreplay to set the stage to have sex together.
This is not like having “movie night” at home together watching “The Notebook” and then going out to Dairy Queen for an ice cream after it’s over. Or pop on a hotel pay-per-view porn movie on a romantic weekend getaway.
Couples watch porn together to get in the mood and ready to rumble! Sure. Some couples will endure 2+ hours of a heavy dialogue movie or xxx-parody, but most really just want to cut to the chase and watch people fucking with great passion and enthusiasm! As a film maker, I know that viewers simply wanting to either get off, or set the stage for sex, spend less than 7 minutes watching a movie.
To be fair and balanced, we do see user sessions last for the entire duration of a feature porn movie, and do have many members that request such for “couples viewing” so there are a lot of ways that this can be done to satisfy a wide range of viewer preferences.
But, it’s all pretty laudable that some folks want to carve out a genre specific to “Couples Porn”, but it just does not fit the bill for WHY couples are watching porn together and once again attempts to drive people into “a box” as far as demographics and what the producers “think” is appropriate for various interest and gender groups.
Adult Industry and Sex Industry Pundit Violet Blue sums up one side of the issue nicely, saying:
As someone who has been reviewing porn for years, it’s amusing to hear the SoCal porn industry begin to change its tune about porn made “for couples”. Until recently, the at-large attitude of the industry for fare directed at heterosexual couples who want to watch films together has been, er, somewhat impolite. Still, even in the industry magazines you’ll hear filmmakers and writers referring to couples’ fare as though it were lighter, weaker, for wussies. Or, more appropriately, for pussies.
That’s because it is. Made for the owners of pussies — women — and also for guys who are watching it with them. I don’t think the assumption on the part of the porn industry is that the guys are weaker for wanting to watch it with their gals, I think that they believe couples’ tastes to be weaker and need to be more watered-down because of the addition of a woman to the viewership.
Violet has a good point there, but is missing the beat on what other couples actually watch together: Fast and Hard Porn to get the ship ready to sail! Or long and sexy. It really depends on the individual couple’s desires.
