Drones are being used to deliver abortion pills to Poland

Well isn’t this some good news? Looks like drones are up to more good in the world. Women on Waves will be flying drones across the German border and into Polish territory to drop abortion pills from the sky. I always knew that drones will one day be delivering drugs, but little did I know it would be these kinds of drugs, and that it will be doing good rather than fueling some kid’s drug habit. These pills can be taken for pregnancies up to nine weeks, which kinda sounds better than any other drug out there.

Poland has always been a conservative country and its laws only permit abortions in cases of rape or incest, if the woman’s life is in danger or if there’s some complications to the fetus. But even in these cases, it would seem that one would still be hard pressed to find doctors and hospitals that will willingly help you. While it is illegal to receive an abortion in the country, Women on Waves seem to have found a loophole. They state that women in Poland cannot be punished for taking the pill or any actions that might lead to a miscarriage. Perhaps walking on thin ice there, but it’s worth it in order to at least try and reclaim control over our own bodies.

I’m feeling an upward wave of hope what with the US legalizing same-sex marriage and this group of women saying a big FU and using ‘effing drones to drop pills. It would seem like the whole world is kind of (or at least trying) to rebel against all the bullshit that is constantly dropped on us. Especially of the religious kind telling us what we can or cannot do with our bodies.

I’ve never understood the big deal with having an abortion but it would seem that women are made to see like they are evil incarnate to even consider having one. In Poland public opinion still seems to be against abortions. In a 2014 poll 65 percent of Polish citizens deem abortions to be unacceptable. So while this little drone pill drop might be a start, it seems that it’ll still be an uphill battle to try and change public opinion.

Either way, I shall still rejoice in this little victory and to the women who have taken the pills and can sleep easy because of it.
