Sex News: International Clitoris Awareness Week Takes Place May 6-12

As a happy companion holdiay to “National Masturbation Month” going on during the month of May, ‘International Clitoris Awareness Week‘ Takes Place May 6-12!  The organization behind the week is“Clitoraid,” a Las Vegas-based group usually devoted to helping victims of female genital mutilation around the world.

However, Clitoraid spokeswoman Nadine Gary said the message behind “Clitoris Awareness Week” is more whimsical. “We’ve noticed that the clitoris has not gotten its spot in the limelight. It makes people feel uncomfortable. For this week, we don’t want to focus on genital mutilation.”

I very much admire the international work that Clitoraid has been doing on the serious topic of genital mutilation, and their decision to create this fun and whimsical holiday is totally a fun and admirable way for them to spread awareness. For International Clitoris Awareness Week, Clitoraid is even inviting women to organize special events!

And here are some of the plans that make my imagination run wild, visualizing some of them in play: “Whether through educational lectures, art exhibits, songs and dance, or a ‘girl’s night’ of sharing, each woman can celebrate sexual beauty the way she chooses,” Gary said. “Sexual expression brings self-esteem and inner balance, so let’s revere the clitoris in all its glory while completely free of shame and guilt!”

Art exhibits, songs and dance celebrating the clitoris? Works for me. I was a music major in college. 🙂

“We want to prompt women to speak out and celebrate their sexuality,” Gary said.  She is hoping to arouse interest in “Clitoris Week” by having fellow Clitoraid members dress in giant vagina costumes and hand out fliers on the Las Vegas Strip. (Film at eleven?)

What a wonderful concurrent holiday to National Masturbation Month. So, let’s all grab our bullet vibrators, sing a song and do a dance to celebrate!
